 All about Marbella

MARBELLA is a blooming coastal city in southern Spain. It has a land area of 114.3 square kilometers and it has a population of more than 120,000 as of 2006. If you’re a foreign traveler, you can go directly to Marbella because it has its own international airport. That’s not a surprise since Marbella is one of the well-developed cities in Spain. If you’re from Europe, you don’t need a visa anymore in going here. There are dozens of daily flights coming from major western European capitals like London, Paris, Rome and Berlin but there are also flights coming from other major Spanish cities like the capital Madrid and Barcelona. You can reach the city too by train courtesy of daily transnational trips from France. You just need to hop into another train from Malaga in coming here.

If you’ve got a car of your own, you will definitely encounter the same national border crossing upon coming here. But if you really want to save, you may take the bus which can be sometimes annoying because of the load of passengers even though the bus itself is air-conditioned. On a positive note, taking the bus means breathing in the Marbella culture and if one is fluent in Spanish, he or she can easily relate to the day-to-day conversations among the bus passengers.

The key to going to Marbella is to always book ahead even in the smallest hostals during summer because this is the peak season for tourists. Many tourists here come from Britain who are usually enticed to visit the place because of its relatively warmer climate during summer than the rest of Europe. This may not be warm as it is in the tropics (the maximum temperature during summertime is only at 22 degrees Celsius) but this will definitely suffice for British tourists who are used to the cold wintry climate in their country and could not withstand warmer regions. In fact, tourism makes the bulk of the Marbella economy with some of its sights like the Arabian wall and the bonsai museum. Most of the British tourists are from the older generation and who would like to retire and spend the rest of their lives here with their spouses. They usually purchase real properties here for real estate laws in Marbella in particular and in Spain in general are relaxed and foreign-friendly. There are only two taxes that a foreigner needs to be aware of – the annual income tax of your property and the monthly garbage collection tax which goes to the Marbella city coffers.

That’s the first kind of foreigner found in Marbella. The second kind is the one who purchases a property but would leave it uninhabited for the rest of the year. It’s only during two months in summer that the owner of the property would fly back here along with his or her spouse and take some form of relaxation here like golfing perhaps. Speaking of golfing, beach resorts scattered around the Marbella coastline have their own able golf instructors and caddies and most of these are PGA-certified.
